GREEN BAY - Just before 3 a.m. Green Bay police received a call of a women being pulled into a van by two men. It happened here near the corner of Webster and Radisson Street on the city's east side.
"That's a very serious disturbance of a female being pulled into a van. We don't know if this is a kidnapping, a carjacking or what," said Lt. Dave Wesely with the Green Bay Police Department.
When police arrived on the scene the van was gone. But 45 minutes later an off duty officer spotted the van. It was speeding across the Mason Street Bridge heading west.
A patrol car tried to pull the van over further down on Mason. That's where the chase began.
"At speeds up to 120 miles per hour," said Wesely. "Very, very dangerous to police officers and very dangerous to people inside the van."
The man behind the wheel of the van would later be identified by police as 33-year-old Michael Brabbs of Green Bay. After the high speed chase turned onto Highway 29 westbound, the suspect called 911.
"While the chase is going on the suspect is calling 911 saying he had just killed somebody in the van, threatening to kill the female in the van saying he has a bomb threatening to kill police officers unless officers stop chasing him," said Wesely.
With other lives potentially in danger, the pursuit continued.
Police say the chase lasted almost 30 minutes ending near the Bonduel exit in Shawano County on Highway 29.
Spikes put on the highway flattened the van's tires and a squad car got it to stop.
"The driver got out and was holding the female kind of as a shield in front of him," explained Wesely. "One of our canine officers sent the dog and at the same time Shawano County Sheriff's deputy was able to utilize a Taser."
Brabbs was arrested for driving drunk- his 5th OWI offense, eluding police, recklessly endangering safety and not having a valid driver's license.
There was no dead body in the van and no bomb.
Although police say once they sort out exactly what happened more charges could filed.
The 21-year-old Oneida woman taken in the van was questioned and released, and police are still looking for the other man reported in the initial disturbance call.
