DE PERE - Another poll shows Governor Scott Walker has the edge in the effort to recall him.
The St. Norbert College-Wisconsin Public Radio poll gives Walker a 50% to 45% advantage over challenger Tom Barrett. 5% remains undecided with a 5% margin of error.\
“We found that our numbers are pretty similar to what other people are finding,” said Wendy Scattergood, an assistant political science professor at St. Norbert.
The new poll gives an extra percentage point to Barrett compared to the Marquette Law School Poll released a week ago. That poll of 600 likely voters gave Walker a 50% to 44% advantage.
“With these numbers and as I said all the polls are pretty similar, they are all within error margins, so that really means that statistically these are dead heats that we are finding here,” said Scattergood. “That means it's all about mobilization and who is going to show up on the day.”
With voter turnout key, both candidates remain on the campaign trail. Barrett spent part of Wednesday in Black River Falls, attacking Governor Walker's job record.
“He became so preoccupied with becoming the poster boy of the Tea Party and the far right that he took his eye off the prize which was to create jobs,” said Barrett.
At Oshkosh's Marvel Manufacturing, Walker maintained his reforms have not only created jobs, but saved taxpayer dollars.
“Whether it's here in the Fox Cities, or all over the state, our reforms have saved taxpayers over a billion dollars,” said Walker.
While the campaigning continues, people behind the new survey say most voters have their minds made up.
“These people feel very strongly,” said Scattergood. “They are not going to change their mind.”
The general recall election is June 5th.
