Suamico family on board stranded ship

More than 4,000 cruise passengers from the Carnival Dream had an unexpected ending to their trip.

The cruise line flew them home from St. Maarten because of a problem with the ship's generator.

A Suamico family was one of those vacationing on the ship, when it got stranded at port.

The Thoreson's say they made the best of the situation, taking in all that St. Maarten had to offer.

Alicia Thoreson adds her family had a really good time, and were pleased with how Carnival handled things.

However, others on the ship were disappointed that the cruise itinerary was interrupted.

"We still had great food we had great service we had all the facilities that were needed, the bathroom were in order, the elevators were in order. There was nothing that was dangerous or harmful or uncomfortable in any way," said Alicia Thoreson of Suamico.

"Frustrated. You know it's disappointing more so that we don't get to finish up our trip and have those final 2 days at sea. Relieved a bit that it happened here in port in St. Maarten rather than at sea so we're trying to be optimistic about it," said Carnival Dream passenger Kris Anderson.

Carnival chartered more than a dozen Delta flights to get those stranded passengers.

The cruise line is giving them them discounts on future trips.

Company officials announced this week they'll do "a comprehensive review" of all 23 Carnival ships.

Carnival has run into several issues with its ships, aside from the Dream.

Also this week, the Carnival Legend had trouble with its thrusters, resulting in a cancelled stop.

And last month, 42-hundred passengers aboard the Carnival Triumph were stranded at sea for five days.

They had no power and no working bathrooms.
