GREEN BAY - Happy Unbirthday to you!
Five Green Bay children spent their special day a little differently than most.
There was the typical cake and ice cream, but presents were donated to someone else.
Those attending the party were asked to bring a wrapped gift or cash for Green Bay's Freedom House.
The children, who came up with the idea, say they don't mind giving up their presents to help the less fortunate.
"It's for like a good cause, so you know, other people can benefit too. It's a lot better than any other birthday party could be for us," said Marisa Jacques, 13.
"A day like today again, just continues to raise awareness that even in the summertime, we've got a homeless challenge. Homelessness doesn't go on vacation, unfortunately," said Freedom House president Robyn Davis.
It was the Jacques family's third annual Unbirthday Party.
Marisa Jacques said it's good to celebrate her January birthday with friends in the summer.
And the donations couldn't have come at a better time for the Freedom House.
Workers there say are in need of food donations, specifically - butter, chicken, sugar, and paper towels.
The shelter provides temporary housing assistance to homeless families.
It is currently at capacity, serving nine adults and 25 children.
Donations are accepted seven days a week at the shelter's St. Anthony Drive location.
