GREEN BAY - For many, Valentine's Day has become a day when love is in the air.
It is also a day of big business.
Statistics show the average American will spend more than $130 on cards, gifts, and more.
At Schroeder's Flowers in Allouez,
"This is the biggest single-day of the year for us," said Peggy Schroeder, Schroeder's Flowers owner.
Balloons, cards, and of course flowers. Schroeder says Valentine's Day can account for 15% of the store's annual revenue.
"We've been really rushed, we've been trying our hardest to keep up with all the orders we're getting. People are coming in right and left, especially men," said Schroeder.
Sam Patterson bought six roses.
"I guess it's cliché, but trying to be a little romantic," said Sam Patterson, De Pere.
Deliveries were going strong.
"This morning, we started out with 430 deliveries," said Schroeder.
Before noon, 800 orders were in. 30 drivers were kept more than busy.
At Seroogy's Chocolates in De Pere,
"Very busy, very busy. We've been busy since the doors opened at 9:00 this morning," said Marjorie Hitchcock, Seroogy's Chocolates sales and marketing.
A heart-shaped box of chocolates was a perennial favorite.
Mary Jane Van Remortel got her valentine Tuesday.
"My husband was here yesterday and filled all my gift wishes. Bought me roses and chocolates," said Mary Jane Van Remortal, De Pere.
But some gifts require the personal touch.
"It needs to say Happy Valentine's Day," said Katie Jurey, Chappell Elementary School kindergarten teacher.
Katie Jurey's kindergarten class at Chappell Elementary School in Green Bay is creating valentines for classmates and residents at a nearby nursing home.
"They learned about celebrations, and this was one way they could carry it to the next level, and bring it to the community," said Jurey.
So whether the wishes on this day are large, or small, there is a valentine message behind each one.
"It gives us just a moment in time to think back and to remember that love is so important in all our lives," said Van Remortal.
Business owners say after Thursday, they will take a short break.
At Seroogy's, preparations are already in-the-works, for Easter.
