Some Verizon Wireless customers' phones were out for a while on Monday.

The company said customers in northern Wisconsin and Upper Michigan lost voice, text and data service for a time during the afternoon. Verizon blamed "a network issue impacting (its) switch operations in the Appleton/Green Bay area." By 3:30 p.m., everything was working.

The company is trying to figure out the root cause of the problem. It apologized to customers in a statement Monday afternoon.
