Veterans group helps local family

ASHWAUBENON - An area veterans group has reached out to help another veteran's family in need.

Desert Veterans of Wisconsin presented a $500 check to our fellow FOX 11 employee Jan Steinhorst Wednesday.

The group's motto is "Veterans helping Veterans.”

The money will be used to help Jan travel to Denver to be with her veteran son, Jeff.

Jeff's three-and-a-half-year-old son has stomach cancer and is undergoing surgery.

"They are helping me get out there so I can see him as he goes through his heavy round of chemo and his stem cell transplant,” said Steinhorst.

Steinhorst works in FOX 11's sales department. She leaves for Denver next Saturday.
