DE PERE - The Winter Warrior 5K isn't your usual race.
More than 100 participants ran, walked or snowshoed over a challenging course of snow and ice-covered paths Saturday.
It all went down at the Mid Vallee Golf Course in De Pere.
The Desert Veterans of Wisconsin hosted the event to raise money for local veterans programs.
They say the idea for "Winter Warrior" came from other unique events.
"We decided that with the growth of some of these more extreme running events around the country that this might be a good fit. It turns out we were right," said event organizer Kevin Bauer.
The event is in its second year.
The proceeds will help fund scholarships and provide financial support to area veterans.
