WPS seeks electric, natural gas hikes

Public Service Commission will review request

GREEN BAY - If you have WPS, your electric and heating costs could go up starting next year.

Wisconsin Public Service announced Friday it wants to raise electric and natural gas rates for 2013.

WPS is requesting to bump up electric rates by 9.2% and natural gas rates by 3.7%.

For the average customer that would be a $7 monthly increase for electricity and about $2.50 for natural gas.

WPS says increased fuel and maintenance costs are major factors in the requested increases.

The proposal will be reviewed by the state Public Service Commission, which can either approve or deny WPS’ request.
