GREEN BAY - A nuclear power company with plants in Minnesota is trying to help out some area workers.
Xcel Energy hosted a job fair in Green Bay Thursday for employees of the Kewaunee Power Station.
The company is looking to fill about 70 open positions at two Minnesota plants and its corporate headquarters.
Officials came to Northeast Wisconsin because the Kewaunee Power Station is scheduled to stop power production this year, putting 650 people out of work.
Representatives say the Kewaunee workers are highly qualified.
"They're held to the same standards, with the same training requirements. It makes it much easier for us to pick or to hire somebody, and get them trained up fairly quickly,” said Mark Schimmel, vice president of the Monticello nuclear power plant
The job fair continues Friday at noon.
