STURGEON BAY - The state has approved a $4.8 million contract for upgrades to the Bayview Bridge in Sturgeon Bay.
Gov. Scott Walker's office announced the project Thursday. Work is scheduled to begin Monday on the bridge, which is part of Highway 42/57. The project is set to finish next July 4.
The project includes structural steel repair, bridge painting, electrical and machinery system upgrades and an overlay of the bridge deck and approaches.
Electrical work is beginning this fall and should not affect traffic. In March, however, the bridge will close and traffic will be detoured through Sturgeon Bay.
The Bayview Bridge opened in 1978 and major repairs were last done in 2004. This project is expected to extend the bridge's life.
Zenith Tech of Waukesha is the prime contractor.
