Becky Holly enters into plea deal

MANITOWOC - A Manitowoc woman accused of driving drunk and killing three members of the same family agreed to a deal in court late Friday afternoon.

44-year-old Becky Holly agreed to plead no contest to three counts of killing someone while driving intoxicated. The judge accepted the agreement.

Authorities say Holly was driving drunk last October when her mini van veered off the road, into a yard, hitting and killing Lawrence Gerroll, his wife Lou Ann and their daughter Joan.

Officials say Holly's six-year-old son was also in the vehicle while she was driving. He was injured.

Holly wiped away tears as she told Judge Patrick Willis she understood her plea agreement.

Holly remains in a wheel chair, nearly eleven months after the crash.

The Gerolls were standing in the yard of one of their family members when the crash happened.

Police say Holly's blood-alcohol content was nearly twice the legal limit at the time of the crash.

“I'm pleased that we were able to reach this resolution,” said Mark Rohrer, the Manitowoc County District Attorney.

The resolution wipes away seven other criminal charges.

Family members of the Gerolls are pleased with the deal.

“I think it's best for the whole family to not have to go through the trial,” said Matt Gerroll, the son and brother of the victims.

“It's the beginning of the closure I think is a better statement,” said Rohrer. “This is the first step, there are no winners in this case.”

The state is recommending Holly spend 20 years in prison with up to 18 years of extended supervision.

The defense declined comment after court.

As part of the plea agreement, Holly will remain on house arrest until her sentencing date on December 4th.
