WASHINGTON - Plans for the S.S. Badger to continue running have once again been slowed.
A Coast Guard authorization bill was passed in the U.S. House Wednesday, but a provision regarding the ship was taken out.
The S.S. Badger transports passengers and cars between Manitowoc and Ludington, Michigan.
It's permit to continue dumping ash into Lake Michigan expires this month.
U.S. Rep. Tom Petri (R-6th District) worked to get the provision in the House bill. It would have allowed the ship to continue operating as is.
The bill was passed by a voice vote. Petri wasn't there for it.
The Badger's operators are also waiting on a permit application to give them more time to find a cleaner way to operate.
