MANITOWOC - Manitowoc police say a man's attempt to get out of work for the day led to part of the city being closed off as children went home from school.
Officers say on Friday morning they learned that a 26-year-old Milwaukee man was in Manitowoc and had made threats to kill his girlfriend and a man she was now dating. The man's vehicle was found at the girlfriend's house in the 1400 block of Columbus St. Officers closed the area and rerouted traffic and school children going home after a half-day.
Police then found the man inside the house. No gun was found, and after interviewing the people involved, police eventually determined he made the threats as an excuse to miss work for the day.
The investigation is continuing. Anyone with information is asked to call police at (920) 686-6651.
