APPLETON - U.S. Congressman Bart Stupak (D-Menominee) released the following statement on the passing of former Wisconsin Congressman and Upper Peninsula native Jay Johnson, who represented the Eight Congressional District in Wisconsin from 1996-1998:
“Northern Michigan is grieving the loss of another former member of Congress in a matter of just a few days. Saturday, former Congressman Jay Johnson (D-Green Bay, WI) passed away, following Congressman Bob Davis (R-St. Ignace, MI) who passed away this past Friday. Jay was a native of Bessemer in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and a graduate of Gogebic Community College and Northern Michigan University. He was a man of the people and he was always proud of his “Yooper” roots. I was pleased to have served with Jay in Congress and my heartfelt condolences go out to his wife JoLee and their family.”
