MARINETTE (AP) - A memorial service has been scheduled for the teenager who took his own life after holding classmates hostage in Marinette.
Fifteen-year-old Sam Hengel will be memorialized in a 1 p.m. service Sunday, Dec. 5, at the Blesch Auditorium in Menominee, Mich. The Hengel family has set visitation from 11 a.m. to the time of the service.
A memorial fund has been established at Bank Mutual in Marinette, in part for donations to suicide prevention programs.
Police say they may never know what motivated the 15-year-old boy to hold about two dozen classmates and a teacher hostage this week and then commit suicide. Classes have resumed at Marinette High School.
