FLORENCE COUNTY - Freezing rain appears to be a factor in a fatal crash in Florence County.
It happened Sunday around 5:08 p.m. at the intersection of State Hwy. 70 and State Hwy. 139 in the Town of Tipler.
Sheriff’s officials say a vehicle west on State Hwy. 70 failed to stop for a stop sign. Authorities say the vehicle crossed State Hwy. 139, went into the ditch and became airborne. It traveled approximately 84 feet before hitting a tree.
Sheriff’s’ officials say the driver killed is identified as 69-year-old Billy Cooper of Crystal Falls, Michigan. He was pronounced dead at an Iron River hospital.
