CRANDON (AP) - A former medical examiner charged in Oneida County with keeping a body part from an autopsy is facing a similar accusation in Forest County.
Traci England was charged earlier this year in Oneida County after police say she kept a piece of cadaver spine to train her dog. The 44-year-old Rhinelander woman has pleaded not guilty to misconduct in office.
Now a criminal complaint filed in Forest County accused England of keeping tissue from a body in another autopsy performed the same day as the Oneida County case. Forest County has a contract with Oneida County for medical examiner services.
Her attorney, Joel Hirschhorn tells WAOW-TV the tissue was being discarded anyway. Hirschhorn says it's sad for everyone involved, including England, the family and the community. England resigned following her arrest in January.
