BAY OF GREEN BAY - The U.S. Coast Guard is planning an ice-breaking operation on the bay of Green Bay next week.

Officials say the ice breaking between Sturgeon Bay and the Marinette/Menominee Harbor should happen between Monday afternoon and Wednesday. A barge will be taken into the Marinette/Menominee Harbor; then, a tugboat is scheduled to go to Escanaba, Mich.

Ice fishermen are asked to remove their ice shacks and equipment from the areas affected. Recreational users are also asked to avoid shipping channels and be careful in the areas.
