LAONA - Forest County sheriff’s officials say a Monday morning school lockdown stemmed from perceived threats made online.
Around 7:40 a.m., officials were notified of a Laona student making threats via Facebook to bring a gun and shoot up the school. The school was placed on lockdown and the student was arrested shortly after the lockdown began.
Investigators learned the apparent threats were partial song lyrics and poetry that were referring to self-harm and were not directed at any other students or staff. The student was taken to the sheriff’s department and spoke to a crisis intervention screener, then released to family.
The sheriff’s department says it will not release the names of people involved.
