MARINETTE - President Barack Obama's budget proposal could affect business for a Marinette shipbuilder.
According to the Navy's website, it is requesting enough money to build only four littoral combat ships next year.
Two would be built at Marinette Marine. The other two would be built at a shipbuilder in Alabama.
According to the request, each ship costs about $446 million. But because of budget constraints, the Navy will hold off on awarding contracts for two more LCS. That would mean one less ship for each company than originally planned.
The Navy still wants to eventually build 55 LCS.
