BESSEMER, Mich. (AP) - A fire has caused extensive damage to a ski resort in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, but no injuries have been reported.

The fire broke out Thursday morning in the main lodge of the Big Powderhorn Mountain Resort near Bessemer. Gogebic County sheriff's deputy Jay Kangas says crews were still trying to extinguish it.

Kangas says no injuries have been reported, but the building appears to be a total loss.

The cause is unknown. A resort employee tells WLUC Television in Negaunee it started in a kitchen.

An official with the state fire marshal's office is scheduled to arrive Friday to help local officials with the investigation.

Departments from several towns and townships in Gogebic County and nearby northern Wisconsin are helping battle the fire.
