Vandals strike before Oconto Co. lighting ceremony

TOWN OF RIVERVIEW - A tree-lighting ceremony for a town in Oconto County is just that-- a single tree will be lit Saturday night in the Town of Riverview.
Vandals cut off the tops of trees and cut down the lights prepared for the ceremony at the Town of Riverview Town Hall and Fire Department on Highway 32.
An official from the Town of Riverview says they believe the vandalism happened around 1:30 Saturday morning, but it wasn't discovered until later in the morning.
The town official says the damage estimate ranges from $3,000 to $5,000.
The lighting ceremony will still be held at the Riverview Town Hall at 4 p.m. The town official says they will redecorate the top of the only tree intact to show vandals can't break the town's Christmas spirit.
The Oconto County Sheriff's Department hasn't named any suspects yet, but anyone with information is asked to call the department at (920) 834-6900.
