MADRID (AP) - A Spanish judge has indicted three alleged former Nazi death camp guards who have recently been living in Michigan and Wisconsin.

Judge Ismael Moreno issued international arrest warrants Johann Leprich, who lives near Detroit; Anton Tittjung of Kewaunee; and Josias Kumpf, who had lived in Racine, but was deported to Austria earlier this year. FOX 11 tried contacting Tittjung, but a phone number listed in his name had been disconnected.

The three are charged with being accessories to genocide and crimes against humanity.

The judge acted under Spain's observance of the principle of universal jurisdiction. This allows particularly heinous crimes such as genocide, torture or terrorism to be prosecuted in Spain even if they are alleged to have been committed elsewhere.

Moreno has been investigating since July of last year at the request of two Spaniards who survived the Nazi death camps.
