Reid's mother testifies for defense

OSHKOSH (AP) - The mother of a teenager accused of strangling his father testified her estranged husband was frequently violent, aggressive and drunk.

Lisa Reid took the stand Tuesday in defense of her 17-year-old son, Zachary Reid. She testified in Winnebago County Circuit Court that Brett Reid was "aggressive, argumentative, violent" when he was drunk - and that he was drunk a lot.

Prosecutors say they expect the teen to testify Wednesday and tell jurors he was acting in self-defense when he killed his father, 53-year-old Brett Reid, last October.

Earlier Tuesday, the prosecution called several witnesses who read portions of journal entries allegedly written by the teen which talked about killing his father.

The body of the 53-year-old victim was found in the trunk of his car parked at an elementary school in Neenah.
