Two Wisconsin companies will receive stimulus money from the federal government to repair harbor facilities in Sturgeon Bay, and to automate several Fox River dams.

The U.S Army Corps of Engineers awarded a $2.9 million contract to the Edward E. Gillen Co., a small business in Milwaukee, to repair the south revetment in Sturgeon Bay. The work will consist of: relocation and reuse of stone fill, placement of more than 2,000 feet of steel sheet pile walls, removal and disposal of old dilapidated wooden Wakefield sheet wall and placement of splash stone.

The Corps awarded the AH West Group, a small business in Appleton, Wis., a $906,275 contract modification to update the automation on gates at six Fox River dams. The Recovery Act funds are in addition to more than $563,000 awarded with 2008 fiscal year funds for the automation project.

The Corps says the automation will reduce time and effort needed to make gate elevation changes, improving service to those who rely on pool elevation responses.

The government says both projects are expected to add 127 direct and indirect jobs to the state.
