OCONTO COUNTY - After a summer that passed too quickly for man, the beauty of fall has arrived.
"It's just been absolutely gorgeous," said Barbara Pickthall of her drive from Appleton to Oconto County. "It's pretty. I love leaves, and I like to take pictures so this is a good chance."
Pickthall and her daughter Linda Crawford made a stop in Suring, on their way North to the family cabin, they're taking in the scenery.
"Fall is my favorite season. I didn't grow up in wisconsin , I grew up in Texas so it's nice for us to kind of get out when the weather's still nice before winter comes, and enjoy the leaves and enjoy the nice weather for a change," said Crawford.
While some use the fall colors as an excuse to get away for a few days, others simply take them in during a day trip.
Jean VandeWalle of De Pere said she took a drive to, "see the colored trees, but we picked kind of a bad day, (it's) cloudy."
While the leaves are changing color, they provide a bit of a windfall for some businesses.
"We did have a busy weekend but people didn't say that they were coming up to see fall colors, but I'm sure it had some impact with us," said Sherri Smiley, who works at The Boarding House Supper Club in Suring.
State tourism officials report Oconto County leaves are about half way to ideal viewing, but some places are past their peak, that's why now might be a good time to check out the leaves.
"It gives us a chance to be together and it also gives us a chance to go up to the cabin," said Crawford.
A chance to take in the beauty of fall, before it fades to winter.
