SHEBOYGAN FALLS - Some people wait for it all year, and a week from Saturday it will be here: the gun deer hunt in Wisconsin. But, one man already bagged a possible record breaking buck. The hunter says he shot it with a bow and arrow on private land in Sheboygan County, west of Sheboygan Falls, he shared his story and his pictures with FOX 11.

Michael Gregoire has been hunting since he was 10 years old, but last week, he bagged the buck of a lifetime.

Gregoire had seen the buck about a month ago, and eyed it again last Thursday morning, but it wasn't until later that day, he was able to take aim with his bow and arrow.

"(I) didn't realize how big he actually was til we found him laying there," said Gregoire. "We were hootin' and hollerin'. My brother and my dad were in the shed yet waiting for us and we were gonna call 'em when we found it, they were gonna bring the buggy out to pick us up. We didn't have to call them, they heard us yelling."

The deer weighs 240 pounds, has 12 points and a spread of 17 inches. It could break a world record, depending on how it is scored.

Gregoire says his unofficial buck score is 217. According to the Boone and Crockett Club, the world record for a "typical" buck is 213 5/8.

A score takes into account measurements from the rack, including its spread and points. The buck has to dry out for 60 days, and must meet various qualifications before it may officially set the record.

"It's exciting, it'd be pretty cool," Gregoire says of possibly setting the record.

Though breaking a world record would likely come with monetary benefits from endorsements, Gregoire says he's just glad he got the buck he wanted.

"That was the biggest buck I'd ever seen, I wanted to get that one...He was pretty massive when he got to him, it was exciting."

The deer itself is at the taxidermist. Gregoire has his calendar marked for January 5th, when the drying out period will be complete, and he should know if he broke the record.
