CALUMET COUNTY - A 7-year-old girl is in critical condition after a pickup truck broke through the ice on Lake Winnebago on Saturday morning.

Officials have identified the injured girl as Tiffany Dombrowski of St. Nazianz.

According to Tiffany's father, she is in the Intensive Care Unit at Children's Hopsital in Wauwatosa.

Tiffany was in the pickup truck with two other people when it went through the ice.

Those two people, 44-year-old Danial Kleinhans from St.Nazianz and his nine-year-old daughter Savannah were killed in the accident. Tiffany was a friend of Savannah.

The crack that claimed the two lives on Saturday is nearly 3/4 of a mile long and about 20 feet wide in parts but it is not marked.

DNR officials say the best way to approach any kind of ice is knowing it is never 100 percent safe. As cracks shift and move with the weather, those who tread the icy terrain say there is only so much you can do.

Calumet County Sheriff Jerry Pagel says the ice thickness on Lake Winnebago is good, but because of the cracks, he suggests people stay off the ice unless they are very familiar with the lake.
