Geske takes the stand

GREEN BAY - The defense wrapped up its case Friday after Anrietta Geske took the stand in her own defense.

Geske, 46, is charged with driving drunk and killing 18-year-olds Talhia Heroux and Ashley Britsch-Knetzger last June near Bay Park Square in Ashwaubenon.

While on the stand Geske laid out her activities the day of the crash, including her trip to the Sardine Can, a bar on Broadway.

Geske said she drove her Porsche there and her dog accompanied her. Geske said she sipped on the shots she ordered and was not there intending to get drunk, but to socialize. She testified she did not feel drunk when she left the bar and did not feel any effects of the alcohol.

After the leaving the bar Geske said she took a scenic route home and went on to explain to jurors how the crash happened.

Geske said she was reaching down for her dog in the car and her foot accidentally hit the accelerator. Geske says she immediately popped back in her seat, took her foot off the accelerator and she says that's when a car came out of nowhere and all she could to do was swerve to try to avoid it.

"If I hadn't hit the pedal it would have been a quick reach and I would have been right back up. It's a fast car and even tapping on it made it go really fast. I did not expect my foot to go down reaching,” Geske said.

While on the stand a tearful Geske said she was very upset when she found out about the deaths of the women because she has two daughters of her own.

After Geske left the stand, the prosecution called on two rebuttal witnesses.

Closing arguments are expected to take place Saturday morning. Earlier this week, Judge Sue Bischel warned jurors the trial could go into the weekend.
