GREEN BAY - U.S. Rep. Steve Kagen (D-Wis.) became the first member of his
party to be re-elected in the 8th Congressional District in more
than 30 years.
Hundreds of enthusiastic supporters cheered and chanted as
Kagen took the stage at his post-election party at the Riverside
Ballroom Tuesday night.
"In one collective voice you said, 'Doc, you got a good start
but now let's get back to basics and begin to change Washington and
don't ever let Washington change you,'" Kagen told supporters.
After his speech, Kagen spoke with FOX 11 about the big night
for Democrats nationwide.
"It's a historic victory for all Americans," Kagen
said. "This election was not a victory for Barack Obama, it
was a victory for America. We now turn the page."
Kagen says he's looking forward to working with a president
from his own party. He is also happy to put another campaign
behind him.
"This election was not about Steve Kagen or John Gard," Kagen
told supporters. "This election was about all of you and all
the good work we're gonna do together. Will we get it?
I'm more convinced now than ever together we will."
Now that the election is over, Kagen says he's eager to get
back to work for his constituents. The first thing he's
looking forward to is heading back to Washington later this month
to work on another economic stimulus package.
