Road conditions deteriorated throughout the day. Not only did drivers have to deal with the snow, but also, the wind. That made for some poor visibility and dangerous driving conditions.
The State Patrol closed the southbound lanes of highway 41 near Kaukauna for about an hour Sunday afternoon after two crashes. In one, police say it appears one vehicle crossed the median and hit another car head on. The the driver of a fully loaded milk truck was trying to avoid the first accident an slid off the road.
"We had to mark all the evidence and put all the pieces together," said Trooper Mark Haessly from the Wisconsin State Patrol. Haessly said the people involved in the accidents suffered minor injuries.
"My best advice to people is if you can put off driving until tomorrow, that would probably be a pretty good idea at this point." Haessly said.
Traffic moved slowly on 41 throughout the day. City streets also saw a slow down from the weather. Despite the storm, people still traveled. Some did not mind the snow and wind.
"This is weather in Wisconsin in March, Next week it'll be 70," said Green Bay resident Les Etters.
Others said they are tired of it.
"I think I don't like it," said Jim Monfils, who has worked the parking lot at Lambeau Field for 30 years. With the circus in town, he stayed busy and dealt with the weather.
"It's gonna happen. It's the time of the year. You never know. It's unpredictable. So we get dressed for it. We're used to it out here and we all try to do the best we can with it," Monfils said.
But make no mistake, Monfils, like so many other people, has his eyes set on spring. When asked if he was ready for spring, Monfils replied, "Yes I am. It's been a very long winter. I wish it was here already. We got a little taste of it but I wish it would stay."
Plows have been out throughout the day and we expect them to stay out throughout the night. If you have anywhere to go tonight, take your time and slow down.
