SHEBOYGAN - Residents in a duplex in the 2300 block of Indiana Avenue in Sheboygan awoke to what they thought was a bad dream early Friday morning when police informed them that their home was on fire.

"Everyone was asleep, heard a bang and 'fire, fire, you got to get your stuff and get out.' I mean, I came out in a t-shirt and boxers and a hoodie," said James Adams, a displaced resident.

Luckily for Adams, his neighbors were able to provide him with warm clothing, three residents in the other part of the home were not so lucky.

25-year-old, Charles Isaacson and 26-year-old Aran Stelling are hospitalized with injuries and their daughter, four-month-old, Cheyenne Issacson, tragically died as a result of the fire.

Fire officials say the blaze started in the upstairs kitchen and heavy smoke blocked the back stairwell, their main escape route.

"That was where the heaviest volume of fire was and that was where the stairwell entrance to the upper apartment was right in the back, there were no other secondary exits and the only other exits from that second story would be windows," said Sheboygan Fire Department Chief Jay Lastusky.

Police arrived to find Isaacson, Stelling, and the baby on the ground outside the window. It is not known if they fell or jumped from the second story window.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation; however, fire personnel believe there were no smoke detectors in the home,

Adams feels for his neighbors, who just moved in last night, but is grateful for whoever notified authorities

"It's tragic; my heart goes out to that family. I want to thank whoever did call, they saved our lives," said Adams.

And right now, his plans for the future are to get over today.

"What I am going to do next is try and get over this. I mean it's tragic, it happens, but ya just got to live your life day by day," said Adams.

No cause for the fire has been determined. The investigation into both the fire and the baby's death is expected to continue through the weekend.
