WINNEBAGO COUNTY - Despite his attorney's efforts Zach Reid remains in jail, with the same $300,000 bond imposed on him last October.
"This is not like selling or buying a car," said judge Scott Woldt. "This isn't negotiable man, plain and simple, it's not negotiable."
Reid's attorney had hoped the bond could be lessened to $150,000 an amount a family friend would have been willing to post. But the judge believed Reid, if let out, could possibly intimidate witnesses.
The prosecution also had a request denied by the judge, this one in the matter of the allowing a statement Zach Reid's father made to police when Zach allegedly trashed their apartment about 3 weeks prior to his death.
"At that point he said, at the time he lost it I was afraid of him for the first time, that's what you're trying to get in?" asked Woldt.
The reason the judge denied its admittance, he said he'd like to hear how each side is going to argue the case during the trial before allowing in any prior statements Reid's father made to police before his death.
"Right now everybody is trying to figure out what the other side is going to do," said Winnebago County District Attorney Christian Gossett.
"I'd ask the court to defer that ruling for another day once we figure out what our defense is," said Reid's attorney Kevin Musolf.
It appears as though what happens in this case, will only be revealed when both sides reveal their hands during June's trial.
Reid's trial is scheduled for five days in June. If he's convicted his sentence would be life in prison.
