INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - A New Whiteland man is accused of being a 'Peeping Tom.' Thursday morning, police arrested William Newhouse, 50, for voyeurism.

Authorities said Newhouse has been peering into the homes of south side residents. Police caught him after residents in an apartment complex near US 31 and Banta Road tipped them off just after 7 a.m.

As Newhouse was being led away in handcuffs, he admitted to 24-Hour News 8 that he has been caught peeping before. He also admitted that he had a problem.

When asked if he had anything to say to the people who reported him to police, Newhouse said, "Sorry."

IMPD Lt. Jeff Duhamell credited police dispatchers for getting officers to scene quick enough to literally catch Newhouse with his pants down.

"They actually caught him in the act exposing himself and it was about two degrees outside. It's very unfortunate, this guy has priors for it, prior convictions, so now, he's probably looking at a felony," said Lt. Jeff Duhamell.

Neighbors are relieved Newhouse has been caught.

"Well, at least he's caught. The law enforcement is doing their thing, so that has to help," said neighbor Kurt Barkhau.

Police said they're looking into whether Newhouse was involved in other recent reports of voyeurism. He has a record for similar acts dating back to 2002.
