NEENAH - A Neenah couple will present First Lady Michelle Obama with the official White House Christmas tree.
Sue and Tom Schroeder, owners of Schroeder’s Forevergreens were named the grand champions of the National Christmas Tree contest held in Huron, Ohio this summer.
The Schroeders entered a balsam fir from their farm as the prize-winning conifer.
As Grand Champion Christmas Tree growers, Sue and Tom will have one of their trees displayed in the Blue Room for the 2011 Christmas season.
This fall, White House staff will travel to the Schroeder’s farm in Neenah to select the tree. The Blue Room tree will need to be much larger than the 6 to 8 foot contest trees, 18 ½ feet tall to be exact.
The selected tree will be harvested and presented to the First Lady shortly after Thanksgiving.
