MADISON - State wildlife officials plan to open two state parks to deer hunters for the first time this year.

The Department of Natural Resources says it will allow deer hunting for the first time in Potawatomi and Whitefish Dunes State Parks in Door County during the regular gun season, which runs from Nov. 20-28.

DNR officials say deer overgrazing has become a serious problem in both parks, hampering forest regeneration. Certain areas of the park will be off-limits to hunters, however.

The DNR says anyone who plans to use the parks during the gun season will do so at their own risk and should wear blaze orange.
