MENOMONEE FALLS, Wis. (AP) - The Republican Party of Wisconsin says President Barack Obama's visit to Wisconsin won't do much to help Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett's gubernatorial campaign.
Party chairman Reince Priebus says Obama's policies aren't popular here, and his presence will only hurt local Democrats.
Priebus comments came Monday morning, about 30 minutes before Obama was to visit a Menomonee Falls battery plant.
Priebus used the example of an $810 million high-speed train that will be built between Madison and Milwaukee. He says the project being financed by the federal stimulus is an example of the kind of irresponsible spending that Wisconsinites are sick of.
State Democrats counter that Obama has been working hard to restore jobs that were lost because of Republicans' lack of fiscal responsibility.
