Retired greyhounds gather for reunion

MENASHA, Wis. - It was all about dogs in the Fox Valley Sunday.

Folks gathered at the Winnegamie Dog Club for a Greyhound Reunion.

Dozens of retired greyhound racers and owners enjoyed some time outside with games for the dogs.

Wisconsin no longer has active greyhound racing tracks, but states like Florida do.

The Retired Greyhound Athletes group and other statewide adoption agencies are hoping to bring in retiring dogs.

Organizers say many of them still need homes.

"They're really loving dogs and they are pretty calm. There are some with a little bit more energy than others, but they're wonderful pets, more companions than anything," said reunion committee chair Janet McIntyre.

The money raised from Sunday's event will be put toward expenses related to placed retired racers in qualified homes.
