Olsen-Clark face off in recall debate

District 14 race to be decided August 9th

PORTAGE - The collective bargaining law was the key point in a debate between two recall candidates Tuesday night.

Republican Senator Luther Olsen represents the 14th District, which includes parts of Waupaca, Waushara and Green Lake counties.

Olsen will face Democrat Fred Clark in an August 9th recall election.

Although the words "collective bargaining" were never mentioned by the moderator, or the candidates on Tuesday, talk kept returning to Governor Walker's budget repair law and how it was passed.

It eliminates most collective bargaining rights for many state employees.

Senator Olsen defended his support and said he would vote for the law again.

He added, "It is working, we have more people working now than we did before. Schools are in a better place."

Clark responded by saying, "Many of the needs we have to balance the budget could have been done without dividing the state against itself."

Clark claims Olsen could have stood up and found a different way forward.
