OSHKOSH - The 2012 Sturgeon Spearing Season will kick off tomorrow! On Friday morning FOX 11's Emily Deem made sure spearers had some last minute information before they ventured out onto Lake Winnebago.
The Wisconsin DNR said the sturgeon population numbers are looking good for the 2012 season.
"Population numbers are excellent; probably the best since the late 1800's," Ron Bruch with the Wisconsin DNR said. "There are lots of trophy size fish (100 to 200 lbs) in population."
Although the population numbers look positive Bruch said we will probably see a lower harvest than average for this season. Bruch also believes the season will last the full 16-days.

Don Herman, an ice expert and owner of Sunk? Dive & Ice Service in Oshkosh also joined Emily Friday morning.
Herman had some last minute tips for spearers before they headed out on Lake Winnebago.
