GREEN BAY - A man accused of stalking college students was back in court Wednesday afternoon after being a no-show last month.

Al Umentum, 47, appeared in Brown County court on a new charge of felony bail jumping. During that hearing the state asked for a $20,000 bond, but Umentum argued that since he showed up for previous court dates the bond was too high. The judge agreed and set bond at $500 cash.

Brown County Sheriff's officials say that Umentum won't be released even if he posts the cash bond. Authorities say Umentum has to appear before the judge in stalking case that he previously skipped. That court appearance is scheduled for Friday.

Authorities say Umentum followed the five women near the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay campus last December. On Aug. 25, Umentum was scheduled to appear in court for his trial on the stalking charge; however, he failed to show.

Monday, Umentum was arrested in Hartford after citizens tipped off police that he was in the area. Umentum gave the arresting officer a false name, but they were able to correctly identify him and take him to the Washington County Jail. He was later transported to the Brown County Jail.

If convicted on the felony stalking charge, Umentum faces up to three and a half years in prison. He faces an additional six years on the bail jumping charge.

This is not Umentum's first run in with the law. In August 2009, police say Umentum walked into a De Pere tanning salon and forced his way into the tanning area. Before that, in 2008, he was convicted of spying on women showering at a UW-Oshkosh residence hall.
