OSHKOSH - The United States Postal Service (USPS) is recommending consolidating mail processing and distribution operations in Oshkosh with those in Green Bay.
A public meeting on the future of the Oshkosh facilities is set for November 23 at Reeve Union at UW-Oshkosh from 7:00-9:00 p.m.
Although no final decisions have been made, officials will give reasons for recommendations and allow for public input.
All employees would be given transfer opportunities if a decision goes forward. No one would be laid off specifically due to this decision.
This proposed move would save the USPS $4.6 million annually.
When the study was done on the Green Bay facility earlier this year, it was determined the savings, if any, weren't sufficient enough to reduce operations in Green Bay.
Green Bay serves all the way to the Upper Peninsula and down to the bottom of the Oshkosh area.
Part of the reason for the proposed moved is because Green Bay is more centrally located. If relocated in Oshkosh, mail delivery would add time to service.
The next closest processing facility south is in Milwaukee. Other processing facilities in the state are in Wausau and Madison.
If you would like to submit a comment to the USPS you can submit comments in writing before December 8 to:

All comments will be used towards a final decision.
