GREEN BAY - The day after Thanksgiving will be an unpaid day off for most University of Wisconsin-Green Bay employees, as the campus takes its first of four state-mandated furlough days.
University leaders said Nov. 27 was identified as a “low-traffic” day on campus, which will minimize the furlough’s disruption to students.
While most employees will be off, campus housing will still be open. The Kress Events Center box office will also open at 1:30 p.m. for high school basketball tournaments being held that weekend. A few University offices will reopen Saturday, Nov. 28, with normal holiday weekend hours resuming for some campus buildings, like the Cofrin Library.
The remaining furlough days are scheduled for Dec. 28; Jan. 15, 2010; and May 28, 2010. The furloughs are part of a state plan to ease a $5 billion budget deficit.
