Warm weather brings people outside

DE PERE, Wis. - Spring is in the air and warm sunshine was attracting people to the outdoors. For many their destination was open water.
"It's great after having, me being up north, you know it's a little colder up there but you know it's nice to be out on days like this," said fisherman Stephen Hellman.

Fishermen were tackling the Fox River, enjoying the unseasonably warm weather for early March.

"We'll fish for about two weeks as much as we can open water," said Kevin Burmeister of De Pere.

The snow is starting to melt, and the grass is starting to peek through. While some people are taking advantage of the spring like weather, others are holding on to winter sports.

"It's a real good time for walleye. They like the darkness of the ice covered water so this time of year when the water starts to open up, last ice is a good chance to catch some big walleye," said Tony Vicenzi.

Minimal ice remains on the Fox River, and these appeared to be the only two people partaking. Parts of the ice seemed a bit slushy, still these fishermen can't believe more people weren't ice fishing.

"They're missing out! There's 18 inches of ice out there. I don't know why there's not more people out here, but more fish for me," said Vicenzi.

Unfortunately for both groups, the fish weren't biting.

"We seen a guy catch a fish, but that was about it," said Hellman.

But at least the cold weather wasn't biting either.
