It has been a cool summer up to this point in Northeast Wisconsin. Since June First, temperatures have dipped below 70° on ten occasions, with the coolest high temperature of 52° coming on June 6th.
In July alone, temperatures are running more than 4 degrees below normal.
This time of the year is often known as the “Dog Days of Summer.”
The average high temperature is in the lower 80s, a mark that we will fall well short of on Friday and Saturday.
Highs are only expected to rise into the lower 60s on Friday with highs near 70 on Saturday. And temperatures on Friday and Saturday night could dip near record lows.
“As a runner, I love it. But swimming pool time gets a bit chilly for him. We find other things to do,” says Kevin Quinn of Green Bay.
“The cooler days are nice for running around and playing on the bikes, but the hot is kind of nice. You can get in the pools and run in the sprinklers,” adds Green Bay resident Erin Nuthals.
Temperatures will finally rebound near average early next week, making it just feel a bit more like the Dog Days of Summer.
“That 75 to 80° mark is perfect. Not to hot. Not to humid,” mentions Quinn.
Unfortunately, temperatures like that can’t be expected every day of the summer.
“Wisconsin weather is always up and down. If it’s
not snowing in July, it’s not Wisconsin,” says Emily
Monitor, a Pool Director with the City of Green Bay Park and
Recreation.
