Just days ago, it was feeling more and more like summer, but old man winter has stormed back.
Wausau resident, Andre Lemire says, “I had shorts and a t-shirt on, on Saturday, and was enjoying the weather.”
Since Saturday, temperatures have plummeted more than 30 degrees, and for many locations like Shawano, snow is accumulating for the first time since late March.
“I would say we have half to three quarters of an inch,” says Shawano resident Reuben Schaetzel.
But Shawano wasn’t the only place to see snow.
The further you go north, the more snow there is. Most locations in Antigo picked up a few inches of wet heavy snow.
“As I started driving up here, it was accumulating inch by inch,” explains Lemire.
And Antigo residents like Carla Reetz are looking forward to warmer days.
“I’m not liking the snow today. It could go away. Spring could come and I would be happy,” says Reetz.
Other locations in the Eagle River area saw even more snow than Antigo, with 8 inches falling in Phelps.
While snow this late in the season is uncommon, it has happened before. Take April 27th and 28th of 2002 for example, when as much as 20 inches of snow fell across northern Wisconsin.
But whether you like the snow or not, it is all part of living in Wisconsin.
Lemire adds, “You have to roll with the punches, when you live up here in the Midwest.”
Any accumulating snow, however, won’t last long as temperatures will return to 50° by Wednesday.
