SHEBOYGAN COUNTY - Tiger Woods is returning to the Masters, but will he return to Wisconsin? The PGA Championship, the fourth and final major, will be at Whistling Straits in Sheboygan County in August.
The greens are not that perfect shade of green just yet, but there are signs of warmer weather at Whistling Straits, and five months from now, the course will be hosting the 92nd PGA Championship and many of the world's top golfers. Tiger Woods may be on the course.
"We're certainly thrilled that he's coming back to golf at the masters and we're going to open up with open arms if he so chooses to come to Whistling Straits," said Barry Deach, championship director at Whistling Straits. "We're excited."
Deach doesn't have a commitment from Tiger Woods yet. However, he says regardless, the PGA Championship will host the game's top competitors.
"Any time you have certainly somebody of his reputation as far as within the world of golf and how he plays golf and his accomplishments within the world of golf it's exciting. So certainly that will bring people out, but at the same time its 99 or the top 100 players, so they'll all be here which is great," said Deach.
Golfers we spoke with are looking forward to seeing Woods practice his craft again.
"I think it's great for golf," said O'Reilly Gilliam. "Without him in the game there's not much to look for. People want to watch him play. He's obviously the best and he's been number one for a long time so it's nice to see him coming back out."
"I think that it's great for the game of golf," said Matt Smilanich. "I think that he hopefully he's cleaned up his act and he will be a better role model in the future."
The near future for Tiger Woods includes a return to the Masters. We'll have to wait and see if it also includes a return to Whistling Straits.
The only previous time Whistling Straits hosted the PGA Championship was 2004. Woods finished tied for 24th.
