GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — A published report says 60 University of Wisconsin employees exceeded the $12,000 cap on extra academic pay last year, with some educators pulling in more than $20,000.
A Gannett Wisconsin Media report (http://post.cr/YXLGnn ) quotes UW System officials as saying some of the data are skewed by inconsistent record-keeping. The officials also say there were other cases where schools had to pay extra to teachers pressed into duty following unexpected vacancies.
But one state lawmaker said the discovery points to another sign of mismanagement by the UW System. Republican state Rep. Steve Nass says this is another reason not to trust the UW System.
UW System spokesman David Giroux (jer-OO') says the individual campuses need to be aware of the cap, but he adds the problem doesn't seem to be widespread.
