MADISON, Wis. (AP) - An author who helped pinpoint the location of a southern Wisconsin fort is scheduled to address the state historical society this week.

Robert A. Birmingham is scheduled to speak Tuesday at the society's Madison museum. He'll sign copies of his book "Life, Death, and Archaeology at Fort Blue Mounds" after the address. The event is free but the society will accept donations.

Birmingham's book details the history of the fort, which played a key role in U.S. military operations and served as a refuge for white settlers. The book also follows Birmingham's efforts to ascertain the fort's precise location and recover artifacts during his stint as state archaeologist.
